Authorities Swarm Lewiston Home After Finding Body in Woods
LEWISTON -- Investigators have swarmed to a home in Lewiston after a woman's body was found in woods near the southeastern Minnesota community.
Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude says a suspect has been jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder, but has not yet been charged.
The jail roster shows a 23-year-old man was booked on a murder charge just before 7 a.m. Saturday.
The sheriff said in a statement that a caller provided information just before 6:30 p.m. Friday about a possible homicide. He says investigators began a search around 8 p.m., and the woman's body was discovered just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday in a wooded area east of Lewiston.
Her body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Rochester for formal identification and an autopsy.
