BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) - Authorities have identified the 2-year-old boy who died in a Brooklyn Center apartment fire.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner says Keoni Kemontre Holt died Friday from fire related injuries.

Authorities did not elaborate, and the medical examiner says the manner of the boy's death is still being investigated.

Police have said that a man who was in the apartment with the child jumped from a second-story balcony to escape the fire, and told police the boy was in a back bedroom.

Officers were unable to enter the apartment because of heavy smoke, but firefighters went in and found Keoni.

Keoni's mother arrived and went with him to North Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Brooklyn Center police and the State Fire Marshall's Office are investigating.
