TOFTE - Authorities have charged a worker at a popular resort on the North Shore of Lake Superior in the shooting death of a Bloomington man during an annual holiday party for employees.

Marcus Lee Roberts was shot just early Wednesday outside the restaurant at Bluefin Bay Resort in Tofte. The 35-year-old was a blackjack dealer hired to work at the party.

61-year-old Kirk Lee Bigby, of the town of Finland, was charged Thursday with second-degree murder. According to the criminal complaint, there was no altercation before the shooting. Witnesses told investigators they saw the victim walk up to Bigby, who then pulled out a gun and fired.

Bigby is due in court Friday. It wasn't clear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
