Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

St. Cloud City Council to Consider Test of New ‘Smart’ Street Lights

A plan to bring some high tech street lights to St. Cloud could soon be moving forward. The city council will consider the approval of buying five LED lights during their meeting on Monday night.

Shopko Hometown Store Opening in Paynesville

Paynesville is getting a Shopko. The company has announced they'll be moving into the vacant former Alco store at 810 Diekman Drive, under the "Shopko Hometown" store brand. There are over 200 Shopko Hometown stores, which is a smaller concept store for smaller communities.

St. Cloud City Council Raises More Questions On Planned Aquatic and Community Center

Members of the St. Cloud City Council continue to have concerns about the plan for the Aquatic and Community Center. The council discussed the design and budget during a work study session this (Monday) evening.
