Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

Icy Stretch on Interstate 94 Near Sauk Centre Causes a Pair of Crashes

A slick spot on Interstate 94 in Todd County causes two vehicles to lose control. The State Patrol says the incident started just before 2:00 a.m. this (Wednesday) morning. Twenty-eight-year-old Abdirahman Warsame of Minneapolis was driving west in a van in the right lane when he hit a patch of ice and went into the median and hit the cable barrier.

St. Cloud Man Tased After Allegedly Driving Drunk, Ramming Squad Car

A St. Cloud man is facing a number of charges after alleged driving drunk. St. Cloud police say they were sent to the 1300 block of 2nd Street Northeast at about 6:20 p.m. last (Monday) night. The suspect had reportedly left the area and nearly struck three pedestrians with his car.

Members of the Alzheimer's Association are hoping the attention the disease is getting from a Hollywood movie will lead to more funding. The movie "Still Alice" starring Julianne Moore opened in select theaters over the weekend. Katrice Sisson says the effort to find a cure is being severely underfunded.

Focus Group Gives Feedback on Planned Downtown St. Cloud Lofts [AUDIO]

A focus group met last (Thursday) night with the developers of a planned loft-style condominium project in downtown St. Cloud. Rod Lindquist is the spokesman for the developer Makenda LLC. He says the response to the project has been positive.
