Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

UPDATE: St. Joseph Planning Water Slides, Lazy River, Outdoor Pool

We have a better idea today (Tuesday) about what a new St. Joseph water facility may include. The plans include: an open flume slide, an enclosed body slide, and a plunge area. There's also an inner tube slide, a lazy river, and a multi-use pool with two diving boards. The facility would also include a concession stand and a changing room.

St. Cloud City Council Approves $6.2 Million Beaver Island Trail Extension

The St. Cloud City Council has voted to approve spending nearly $6.2 million to extend the Beaver Island Trail in downtown St. Cloud. The council approved the low bid and budget for the project, which includes the river front and staircase improvements next to the River's Edge Convention Center.

St. Cloud’s Negotiations with Charter Communication Continue, Council Moves to Enforce Violation

A franchise agreement between the city of St. Cloud and Charter Communications hasn't been finalized yet. That's despite a public hearing that was held on the issue during tonight's (Monday) city council meeting. As a result, the frustrated council has voted to move forward with a plan to enforce the cable company's violation of moving the PEG channels back in August, without the city's approval.

St. Cloud City Council Grants Liquor Licenses to 3 New Businesses

The St. Cloud City Council has approved the liquor licenses for three new businesses. Lupine Brewing Company, in the former O'Hara's Brewhouse location, has been granted two special liquor licenses. Konrads is a new wine bar and bistro that will be coming to a historic building in downtown St. Cloud. The new Pizza Hut bar that's being planned at 305 5th Avenue South.

Sartell-St. Stephen School District Planning to Use Solar to Cut Energy Expenses

The Sartell-St. Stephen School District is expected to move forward tonight (Monday) with an energy-saving plan using solar power. Superintendent Jeff Schwiebert says Sunrise Energy Ventures is planning on building a solar farm on the old golf course down in Monticello, which is where the power would be generated.

Police Chief: Stepped-Up Patrols At Crossroads Mall, No Threat Made [AUDIO]

Shoppers at the Crossroads Shopping Center may notice a few more police officers this week. Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud says, even though there's no specific threat to the local mall, they do want to be proactive.
