Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

News @ Noon: Canterbury Park Expecting Huge Crowd To Watch California Chrome Race For Triple Crown [AUDIO]

Minnesota horse racing fans are getting ready for the Belmont Stakes. Saturday California Chrome will attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed did it in 1978. Canterbury Park spokesman Jeff Mayday says they're expecting 12,000 to 15,000 people to come out to the track to watch the race.

Cold Spring Man In Critical Condition After Motorcyle Crash

Cold Spring man was airlifted St. Cloud Hospital after crashing his motorcycle. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 61-year-old Daniel Wurzer was riding his bike on Island Lake Road, three miles west of St. Joseph, at about 11:20 p.m. last (Tuesday) night when he lost control.

Man From Hawaii Rescued On Swollen Platte River In Benton County

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the rescue of a victim of a boating accident on the Platte River in northwestern Benton County. At about 1:55 pm today (Tuesday), the Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman who had been involved in a boating accident in West Langola Township.
