Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

Coborn’s Gives $1 Million to Planned Aquatic and Community Center

Another big donation has been announced for the planned St. Cloud Aquatic and Community Center. Coborn's Incorporated has given a $1 million contribution. So far a total of $23.5 million has been raised, as they get closer to their $27 million goal.

Two Vehicles Involved in Sideswipe Crash on Highway 10 in Sherburne County

The State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 10 in Sherburne County this (Thursday) afternoon. The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. A pick-up and a car were both heading east when the pick-up attempted to merge from the left lane to the right lane, causing the car to swerve and hit the pick-up.

News @ Noon: 2 Bills Would Lower Minnesota’s Drinking Age [POLL, AUDIO]

There's a renewed push at the State Capitol to lower the drinking age in Minnesota. DFL Representative Phyllis Kahn of Minneapolis has introduced to bills. One lowers the legal drinking age at bars and restaurants to 18 years-old. The other would allow any child of any age to drink at a bar or restaurant, if they are with their parent or legal guardian and they approve.

Family: Former St. Cloud City Council Member Dies from A Broken Heart

A former St. Cloud city council member, and his wife, have died less than 14 hours apart. Eighty-three-year-old Irene Wahl died on Saturday at the Sterling Park Health Care Center in Waite Park, following a 14-year-old battle with Parkinson's Disease. And, after losing the love of his life, John Wahl died at St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 84.

UPDATE: Power Back On for West Side of St. Cloud Metro Area

Several Xcel Energy customers on the west side of the St. Cloud metro area dealt with a without power this (Wednesday) morning. Xcel says they had two outages, that impacted nearly 2,500 customers in the Westwood neighborhood in St. Cloud, as well as parts of Waite Park, Sartell, and St. Joseph.
