Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

Mayor Kleis Hosting Walk, Meeting on George Friedrich Park

You can take a walk through George Friedrich park in southeast St. Cloud. Mayor Dave Kleis is leading a walking tour at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday). A public information meeting will follow at 7:00 p.m. at city hall.

St. Cloud City Council Approves New 10-Year Agreement with Charter Communications

After months of negotiations, the St. Cloud City Council has approved a 10-year Franchise Agreement with Charter Communications. The agreement does not prevent another cable company from coming in to town. Brian Grogan has been negotiating the contract on behalf of the city.

The Stearns History Museum in St. Cloud is looking at a major expansion project. They unveiled their initial expansion concept during their annual fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. CEO Jim Davis was on WJON today (Monday) to talk more about the project.

North Students Asking City Council for Safety Upgrades at Busy Intersection [VIDEO]

Some students at St. Cloud's North Junior High want safety improvements made at a busy intersection near their school. The "Community Problem Solving" team is asking the city council tonight (Monday) to approve a little over $16,000 for several upgrades at the intersection of 12th Street North and 29th Avenue North.
