Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

A longtime St. Cloud musician stopped by the WJON studio to sing live today (Tuesday) on the News @ Noon Show. Charlie Roth says he's getting ready to head over seas for his fifth European Tour. Roth will be performing in Ireland, Scotland, and England for 27 days later this month and into August.

Police: Stolen Car, Guns, Merchandise Recovered in Waite Park

Two people from California are in jail, facing a number of charges, after being arrested by Waite Park police on Sunday afternoon. Police received a call just before 12:30 p.m. that a man was trying to sell a stolen handgun, and that a woman was in a stolen car, at 815 1st Street South.

A St. Cloud man is taking a trip to Alaska, and he's bringing three local veterans with him. Bob Erickson has visited Alaska over 20 times, and has written two books about his adventures. He says for his next trip he's offering to bring three veterans with him on an all-expenses paid eight-day trip.

Authorities Search for, Find Missing Man on Todd County Lake

Some tense moments on a Todd County lake late Saturday night. The Sheriff's Office received a call of a missing person on Sauk Lake in West Birchdale Township. The caller reported that Kevin Jacobs of Sauk Centre was on a pontoon, but as the boat was heading back to the dock they noticed he was no longer on the boat.

2 Vehicle Rear-End Type Crash on Interstate 94 in Stearns County

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on Interstate 94 in Stearns County, near Waite Park, this (Sunday) afternoon at about 3:00 p.m. A car and a van were both heading east near the Highway 15 exit, when the van slowed for traffic and was hit from behind by the car.

An active afternoon and evening is ahead, with severe weather and heavy rainfall likely. Storms this afternoon will be most likely across central Minnesota, with a line of storms expected to work across Minnesota tonight and into western Wisconsin by Monday morning.
