Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

St. Cloud Metro Gets Dumped on with Heavy Rain Wednesday Evening

A wide range of rainfall totals around the area from yesterday (Wednesday). Officially we had 1.57 inches at the St. Cloud Regional Airport. Our listeners reporting anywhere from two inches to three-and-a-half inches in Sartell and Sauk Rapids.

Brainerd Chamber: ‘We’re Still Open for Family Vacations’

The Brainerd Lakes Area is still open for the family vacations and fun time. That's the message from Brainerd Lakes Chamber president Matt Kilian. He says storms that tore through the Brainerd area on Sunday night closed some resorts and displaced more than 900 vacationers around Gull Lake.

Man Wanted for Attempted Murder in Wisconsin Arrested in Clearwater

A man wanted for attempted murder has been arrested in Clearwater. The Wright County Sheriff's Office says they used a search warrant just after 4:00 p.m. today (Tuesday) at 751 Isabella Avenue. The search warrant was conducted as part of an investigation into a shooting that happened in Bloomer, Wisconsin.

Storm Damage Closes Pillsbury State Forest Near Brainerd

All roads and recreational facilities in the Pillsbury State Forest, which is located just west of Brainerd, have been closed until further notice following a heavy rain and windstorm on Sunday. Uprooted and downed trees have caused all forest roads and trails to be impassable, and all campgrounds are inaccessible.

St. Cloud Approves Agreement with YMCA to Build Aquatic and Community Center

A partnership between the city of St. Cloud and the YMCA to build a new Aquatic and Community Center is official. The city council tonight (Monday) approved two agreements; one is the Development Agreement to design and build it jointly. The other is the Operations Agreement, which includes a 20-year lease for the Y, with the city responsible for maintaining the exterior of the facility.
