Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

Albertville Teenager Killed in Crash Near St. Michael

An Albertville teenager has died in a single vehicle crash. The Wright County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened just before 1:30 p.m. on Friday on Garrison Avenue Northeast near County Road 34 near St. Michael. Deputies found the car in a corn field near a power pole that had been sheared off at the bottom.

Eden Valley Woman Seriously Hurt in Head On Crash

An Eden Valley woman was seriously hurt in a crash in Wright County. The State Patrol says it happened just after 6:00 p.m. yesterday (Sunday) on Highway 12. A vehicle driven by 29-year-old Justin Warnke of Buffalo drove head-on into a semi driven by 45-year-old Bradley Franklin of Bethel.

UPDATE: Planning Commission Approves Plan for St. Cloud Kwik Trip

The first Kwik Trip convenience store in St. Cloud is one step closer to opening. The St. Cloud Planning Commission unanimously approved the request to rezone the property at the corner of Highway 23 and 14th Avenue Southeast. Kwik Trip plans to demolish the church that sites on that property now and build a new 7,150 square foot store, with fuel an diesel pumps. and two drive-thru car washes.

News @ Noon: SCTCC Hosting Camp on Automotive Industry

A new summer camp will give some hands on experience in the automotive industry. The St. Cloud Technical and Community College is hosting the camp for kids ages 12-to-14 next week. Spokeswoman Sandy Fabian says the kids will learn about the various programs available at the Technical and Community College.
