Jim Maurice

I’m a lifelong resident of this great state of Minnesota. I grew-up in the small West Central Community of Maynard.  After graduating from the Brown Institute of Radio Broadcasting, I began my professional career working nights at KDMA radio in Montevideo back in 1988.  In 1995, I moved to Redwood Falls and worked as the sports director for KLGR radio.  I eventually became their morning show co-host and program director. I’ve been working here at WJON in St. Cloud since 2005, and have been the news director since 2007.  The main beats that I cover include: politics, education, and local government. People often ask me, “What’s the best part of my job?”  The answer is that I get to meet a lot of great people, see a lot of cool places, and I never know from one day to the next what my day is going to bring. When I’m not tracking down the latest news story, you can most likely find me doing anything outdoors, whether it’s camping or boating in the summer, or snowmobiling in the winter.

District 742 School Board Ends Revenue-Sharing Deal with LEAF [AUDIO]

The St. Cloud Area School Board has voted to discontinue its revenue sharing policy with the Local Education Activities Foundation. Currently the district transfers $1 per every adult ticket, and .50-cents for each student ticket, to LEAF.

St. Cloud Area School District to Start Fall Classes Before Labor Day [AUDIO]

Students in the St. Cloud Area school district are going to be starting classes before Labor Day in the fall. The St. Cloud Area School Board approved the 2015-2016 school calendar during their meeting this (Thursday) evening.

Half-Cent Sales Tax Extension Allows St. Cloud Metro Cities to Add Amenities [AUDIO]

Back in November, voters in the St. Cloud metro area overwhelmingly approved the half-cent sales tax extension for the next 20 years, now our area cities are looking at ways to spend that money. Sartell, St. Joseph, and St. Cloud all have dreams of building some sort of water facility.

2 Hurt When Truck Crashes Into Becker Dentist’s Office

Two people were airlifted to the hospital after a pick-up truck crashed into a dentist's office building in Becker. Police Chief Brent Baloun says the truck slid off a frontage road along Highway 10 at about 9:00 a.m. this (Tuesday) morning and hit the building which houses the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry.

UPDATE: St. Joseph Planning Water Slides, Lazy River, Outdoor Pool

We have a better idea today (Tuesday) about what a new St. Joseph water facility may include. The plans include: an open flume slide, an enclosed body slide, and a plunge area. There's also an inner tube slide, a lazy river, and a multi-use pool with two diving boards. The facility would also include a concession stand and a changing room.
