Timberwolves To Hold Another Pre-Draft Workout

The Timberwolves continue preparations for the 2012 NBA draft by holding another pre-draft workout at Target Center today. The players the Wolves will be working out include forward Quincy Acy of Baylor, guard Ashton Gibbs of Pittsburgh, forward Eric Griffin of Campbell, forward Cameron Moore of UAB, and forward T.J. Robinson and guard Casper Ware of Long Beach State. The Wolves have the 18th overall pick in the first round of the June 28 NBA draft.

Wild Expected to Take Talent Over Need In NHL Draft

The Minnesota Wild have the 7th overall pick in the NHL draft Friday night. Wild assistant General Manager Brent Flahr says the Wild will draft the best talent available and not for need. The first overall pick is expected to be Russian right wing Nail Yakupov. Edmonton will pick first. The first round of the draft will take place Friday night with rounds 2-7 to take place on Saturday. Minnesota has one pick in each round.

Vikings’ Spielman Has No Interest In Trading Harvin

Viking General Manager Rick Spielman says the team has no interest in trading receiver Percy Harvin despite his reported request for trade on Wednesday morning. Harvin reportedly requested a trade this week from the team for unspecified reasons. Harvin tweeted Wednesday night that the reason isn't money related. Harvin attended the Vikings walk through practice on Wednesday morning but wasn't at the longer Wednesday afternoon practice.

Twins, Willingham Edge Pirates 2-1

The Twins defeated Pittsburgh 2-1 Wednesday night. Josh Willingham hit a solo homerun in the 8th inning to break a 1-all tie for the Twins. Francisco Liriano made his longest start of the season throwing 6 2/3 innings with 4 hits and 1 earned run allowed. He didn't figure in the final decision. Jared Burton threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win. Glen Perkins threw a scoreless 9th inning to earn his 1st save of the season. Trevor Plouffe had a RBI single for the Twins in the first inning.

Willmar Sneaks By Rox 5-4

The St. Cloud Rox lost 5-4 Wednesday afternoon at Joe Faber Field. The game started an hour late due to soggy field conditions after rain moved through central Minnesota Wednesday morning. St. Cloud went out to a 3-0 lead but Willmar came back with a 3-run 6th inning to take the lead. Tony Skjefte went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, Ty Jackson hit a 2-run homerun and Chris Paul was 2-4 with 1 run scored for the Rox. Tadd Johansen threw 6 innings with 10 hits and 4 earned runs allowed. Sergio Luna allowed 1 earned run in 2 innings to take the loss.

Pirates Down Twins 7-2

The Twins lost 7-2 at Pittsburgh Tuesday night to suffer their 5th loss in their last 6 games. Denard Span hit a 2-run homerun accounting for the lone Twins' runs. Trevor Plouffe was 2-3 for Minnesota. Scott Diamond allowed 8 hits and 4 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for the Twins. Kevin Correia threw 5 shutout innings with 4 hits allowed to get the win for the Pirates.

Willmar Downs Rox 9-4

The St. Cloud Rox lost 9-4 at home against Willmar Tuesday night. The loss is the 10th straight for the Rox and they drop to 5-15 this season. Andy Henkemeyer went 2-4 with 1 RBI, Chris Paul was 2-5 with 1 RBI and Boo Vazquez went 2-5 with 1 run scored for the Rox. Billy Soule threw 6 innings with 7 hits and 6 earned runs allowed to take the loss.

Vikings’ Harvin Unhappy; Requests Trade

Viking receiver Percy Harvin told reporters on the first day of mandatory minicamp that he hasn't "been real happy lately" and that a lot of things need to be sorted out before training camp begins. Harvin reportedly has now requested a trade. The trade request in not expected to be granted. Harvin has 2 years left on his 5-year $12.05 Million rookie contract. He didn't go into detail as to what his issues with the team were but did say it was multiple things.
