Amateur Baseball Results; Springers Advance To Super Regional

The Cold Spring Springers have advanced to the Super Regionals by guaranteeing no worse than a 2nd place finish in the Region 7B playoffs. The Springers defeated the Marshall A's 9-2 Sunday. Ryan Morse was the complete-game winner on the mound for the Springers. Cold Spring is 31-10.

Rox Blank Border Cats 6-0

The St. Cloud Rox downed the Thunder Bay Border Cats 6-0 Saturday night. Billy Soule threw 8 shutout innings with 3 hits allowed and 7 strikeouts to get the win. Elvin Soto was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Andy Henkemeyer was 2-4 with a triple and 2 runs scored for St. Cloud. The Rox led 4-0 after 2 innings.

Former Viking, Doleman Goes Into Hall of Fame

Former Viking defensive end Chris Doleman was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday in Canton, Ohio. Doleman had 150.5 sacks in his career. He played with the Vikings from 1985-1993 and again in 1999. His best season was 1989 when he had 21 sacks for the Vikings. He also played for the Falcons and 49ers in his career.

Mauer, Twins Comeback to Beat Red Sox

Joe Mauer hit a 3-run homerun in the 9th inning off Boston closer Alfredo Aceves to lift the Twins to a 6-4 win over the Red Sox Saturday night. Minnesota score 4 runs off Aceves in the 9th inning. Ben Revere was 3-5 with a run scored and Jamie Carroll was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI for the Twins. Cole DeVries threw 7 innings with 4 hits and 2 earned runs allowed. Alex Burnett earned the win in relief and Jared Burton threw a scoreless 9th inning for the save.

WJON's Question of the Week program is asking listeners this week, What is your favorite sporting event to watch on TV? The Summer Olympics continue in London and give us a glimpse of some sporting events we normally don't see on T.V. Twins, Deduno Blank Red Sox 5-0

The Twins blanked Boston 5-0 behind a solid performance by Sam Deduno. Deduno threw 6 shutout innings with 2 hits and 4 walks allowed to get the win and improve to 3-0. Glen Perkins threw 2 scoreless inning of relief to get the save, his 6th. Brian Dozier went 3-4 with a 2-run homerun and 2 runs scored and Justin Morneau went 2-4 with a run scored and Ryan Doumit went 1-3 with 1 RBI.

Rox Down Border Cats 8-4

The St. Cloud Rox defeated Thunder Bay 8-4 Thursday night. St. Cloud scored 6 runs in the 1st inning and held on from there. Chris Paul was 2-5 with 3 RBIs, Elvin Soto went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Boo Vazquez and Nick Tanielu were each 2-4 with 1 RBI for the Rox. Tony Mollica threw 4 shutout innings in relief to earn the win. Tadd Johansen threw the first 4 innings with 3 earned runs allowed for St. Cloud.

T-Wolves Introduce 6’11 Stiemsma

The Timberwolves introduced 6'11 260 pound center Greg Stiemsma at a press conference at Target Center Thursday afternoon. Stiemsma signed his contract with the Wolves officially yesterday after agreeing to terms on a contract 2 weeks ago. Stiemsma is 26 years old and is from Wisconsin. He played his college basketball at the University of Wisconsin.
