Twins, Willingham Down Reds 4-3

The Twins came from behind Sunday afternoon to beat the Reds 4-3. Josh Willingham hit a 2-run homerun off Aroldis Chapman in the 9th inning to turn a 3-2 deficit to a 4-3 lead. Trevor Plouffe hit a solo homerun and Joe Mauer was 2-4 with a run scored for Minnesota. Scott Diamond threw 8 innings with 8 hits and 3 earned runs to get the win and improve to 6-3. Jared Burton threw a scoreless 9th inning to get the save.

Beetles Beat Rox 12-11

The St. Cloud Rox lost 12-11 at Alexandria Sunday night. Andy Henkemeyer went 3-5 with a run scored, a 3-run homerun and 4 RBIs for St. Cloud. Carlos Lopez went 2-4 with a run scored and 3 RBIs and Chris Paul was 2-5 with a run scored and 2 RBIs for the Rox. Andy Urban threw 4 1/3 innings with 4 hits, 8 walks and 7 runs allowed (4 earned) to take the loss.

Blue Sox Win Gopher State Mid-Summer Classic

The 11 and under St. Cloud Blue Sox won the 11AAA Gopher State Mid-Summer Classic in Forest Lake, Minnesota this weekend. The Blue Sox were one of 8 teams participating in the event hosted by myas.org. The Blue Sox beat Andover 9-3 in the finals after downing Osseo/Maple Grove in the semifinals. The 11AAA Blue Sox will participate in the Minnesota Baseball Tournament and Gopher State Tournaments in July.

Wild Draft Results; Take Defenseman Dumba In First Round

The Minnesota Wild drafted defenseman Mathew Dumba with the 7th overall pick in the first round Friday night. Dumba is a 5'11 184 pounder from Canada. He played in the WHL for Red Deer. In the 2nd round the Wild picked left wing Raphael Bussires from Canada, 3rd round pick was defenseman John Draeger from Shattack St. Mary's in Faribault, Minnesota, 4th round pick was center Adam Gilmore from the U.S., 5th round defenseman Daniel Gunnarsson from Sweden, 6th round center Christoph Bertschy from Switzerland and 7th round Louis Nanne from Edina, Minnesota.

Rox Postponed In Duluth; At Alexandria Sunday

The St. Cloud Rox had their games postponed Saturday night in Duluth due to soggy field conditions. The Rox were scheduled to play at doubleheader beginning at 5:30 but could not. Duluth enduring flood conditions this week and Wade Stadium couldn't handle the water. The game Friday night at Duluth was postponed with hopes they could play Saturday.

Reds Blank Twins; Mauer Returns

The Twins lost 6-0 in Cincinnati to the Reds Saturday afternoon. Johnny Cueto threw 7 shutout innings with 3 hits allowed and 9 strikeouts for the win for the Reds. Brian Duensing made the start for the Twins and allowed 4 hits and 4 earned runs in 3 innings to take the loss. The start was the first this season for Duensing. Joe Mauer was in the lineup at first base with Justin Morneau getting the day off. Mauer, Josh Willingham and Ryan Doumit each had 1 hit for the Twins. Mauer had missed 4 games with a bruised quad.
