T-Wolves Reach Agreement With Stiemsma; Win Summer League Game

The Timberwolves have reached a contract agreement with 6'11 restricted free agent center Greg Stiemsma. The Boston Celtics are not expected to match the offer because they are salary cap strapped. Stiemsma averaged 2.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in 55 games for the Celtics in 2011-2012. Stiemsma is expected to be the backup center to Nikola Pekovic this season for the Wolves.

Blue Sox Have Success In Gopher State Tourney

The 12AAA St. Cloud Blue Sox lost 6-4 to Plyouth-Wayzata in the championship game of the Gopher State tournament in Inver Grove Heights Sunday. The Blue Sox were 5-1 in the tournament. The 12AAA team will play either Blaine or St. Michael-Albertville Wednesday for the GSBL state championship.

Royals Top Twins 7-3

The Twins lost 7-3 to the Royals in Kansas City Saturday night. The Royals scored 2 runs in the 5th inning to break a 2-all tie. Chris Parmelee was 2-4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and both Joe Mauer and Jamey Carroll were 1-3 with 1 RBI for Minnesota. Scott Diamond allowed 10 hits and 4 earned runs in 6 innings to take the loss for the Twins and drop to 8-4.

Rox Edge Honkers 3-2 Saturday Night

The St. Cloud Rox downed Rochester 3-2 Saturday night. Billy Soule threw 8 innings with 1 earned run allowed to get the win and Adam Maxon threw a scoreless 9th inning for the save. Chris Paul was 3-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI and Andy Henkemeyer was 2-4 with 1 RBI for the Rox. St. Cloud had 10 hits in the game.

St. Cloud Blue Sox Headed To Aurora, Colorado

The St. Cloud Blue Sox 11AAA team is headed to Aurora, Colorado next week to play in a USSSA Global World Series. This has been in the works for the past 2 months but after the tragedy that happened early Friday morning at a movie theater in Aurora my feelings have changed. Will still plan on going but it was all about the baseball and now it will be about more than that.

Waterloo Downs Rox 7-3

The Rox lost 7-3 at Waterloo Thursday night. Waterloo salvages the final game of the 3-game series. Waterloo scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning and added 3 more runs in the 5th inning. St. Cloud scored 3 runs in the 9th inning. Boo Vazquez went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Adam Martin was 1-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI for the Rox. Andy Urban allowed 6 runs (4 earned) in 4 innings to take the loss for St. Cloud.

Orioles Edge Twins 4-3

The Twins lost 4-3 to Baltimore Thursday afternoon. Minnesota led for much of the day before Baltimore scored 2 runs in the 8th inning. Mark Reynolds had a 2-run single in the 8th inning to give Baltimore the lead. Alex Burnett walked 2 and allowed 2 earned runs in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss. Justin Morneau went 2-4 with a run scored. Josh Willingham had a RBI single and Trevor Plouffe contributed a RBI double for the Twins.

Timberwolves Top Cleveland; Courtney Lee Goes to Boston

The Timbewolves won a summer league game against Cleveland 78-65 in Las Vegas Thursday night. Derrick Williams led the Wolves with 23 points, Coby Karl added 18 points and Robbie Hummel chipped in 2 points. The Wolves are 2-1 in summer league games and will play the NBA D-League Select team this Sunday.
