Former SCSU Baseball Player Gets Honor

Former St. Cloud State baseball player Jordan Smith has been named the minor league player of the week in the Cleveland Indiana organization for the 2nd time this season. He batted .571 with a homerun and 8 RBIs at single-A Lake County in the Indians organization. He is batting .322 with 5 homeruns and 44 RBIs at Lake County this season as an outfielder. He played 3rd base at St. Cloud State.

Orioles Edge Twins, Liriano 2-1; Capps Out Indefinetly

The Twins lost 2-1 Wednesday night to Baltimore. Tommy Hunter threw 7 1/3 innings with 6 hits and 1 earned run allowed to get the win. Francisco Liriano threw 6 innings with 4 hits and 2 earned runs allowed to take the loss. Liriano gave up a 2-run homerun to Adam Jones in the first inning to Baltimore. Josh Willingham hit a solo homerun for the only Twins' run. Willingham was 2-3 and Trevor Plouffe was 2-3 for Minnesota.

Rox, Vazquez Edge Waterloo 7-6

The St. Cloud Rox won their 2nd straight game 7-6 at Waterloo Wednesday night. Boo Vazquez singled in Adam Martin in the 9th inning to break a 6-all tie to lift the Rox to the win. Nick Tanielu went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI, Tony Skjefte went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Vazquez went 2-3 with 2 RBIs for St. Cloud. Ty Jackson threw a scoreless 8th inning for the win and Adam Maxon threw a scoreless 9th inning for the save.

Portland Matches Batum Offer; Time For Plan B

The Timberwolves will not have Nicolas Batum playing for them this season. Portland matched the 4-year $46 Million offer sheet the Wolves signed restricted free agent Batum to. The Wolves tried to workout a sign and trade deal last week with Portland but no deal could be struck. Batum is a 23-year old 6'8 small forward who averaged 13.9 points a game with the Blazers in 2011-2012.

Twins Beat Orioles 6-4; Capps on DL

The Twins defeated Baltimore 6-4 Tuesday night to win the first 2 games of the 4-game series. Minnesota broke the 4-all tie with 2 runs in the 7th inning. Ben Revere had the go-ahead RBI single in the 7th. Joe Mauer was 3-4 with 1 RBI and Ryan Doumit was 2-5 with 2 RBIs for the Twins.

Rox, Hirsch Win at Waterloo 4-2

The St. Cloud Rox won 4-2 at Waterloo Tuesday night to begin a 3-game series. Zach Hirsch threw 8 innings with 4 hits and 2 earned runs allowed with 7 strikeouts to get the win. Adam Maxon threw a scoreless 9th inning to grab the save. Chris Paul was 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBIs and Boo Vazquez had 3 hits for St. Cloud.

Timberwolves Lose Summer League Game; Batum Decision Coming Today

The Timberwolves lost 81-78 to Charlotte in Las Vegas in the summer league. Wes Johnson led the Wolves for a 2nd straight game with 24 points and Derrick Williams added 17 points for Minnesota. 2nd round pick Robbie Hummel scored 6 points off the bench.

St. Cloud Chutes 4, Sartell 0
(Michael Kerber went 2-3 with the Chutes. St. Cloud is 8-6. The Chutes play Big Lake in the winners bracket at 8pm Thursday at Putz Field. Sartell will play Cold Spring in an elimination game Thursday).
