Sauk Rapids-Rice Superintendent: Dayton Preschool Proposal Could Create Space Crunch

Governor Mark Dayton vetoed an education funding bill on Tuesday, saying it wasn't big enough and didn't include preschool funding for four-year-olds in the state. Locally, Sauk Rapids-Rice Superintendent Dan Bittman says he supports the idea of early education and preschool, but adds the district would run into space concerns if the state required it for four-year-olds.

Two Hurt in Crash Near St. Rosa After Driver Falls Asleep at Wheel

Two people were hurt in a one vehicle crash near St. Rosa on Tuesday night. The incident happened just before 11:30 p.m. on County Road 17 east of Sunset Beach Road in Millwood Township, two miles northwest of St. Rosa. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 71-year-old Russell Sieben of Melrose was traveling westbound of County Road 17.

100-Acre Distribution Center Could Come to St. Joseph

A nearly 100 acre distribution center could be coming to St. Joseph. St. Joseph Mayor Rick Schultz says a developer is looking into the possiblity of building the center in town. City documents say the proposed location for the center would be near 19th Avenue Northeast and County Road 133.

Talahi Students Fly Drones, Plant Trees For Hands-On Learning [VIDEO]

Talahi students had a chance to get outside last week for some hands on learning by flying drones and planting trees around the school. Students helped with digging holes, watering and carrying the mulch for the trees. Sam Court is the STEM Integrationist at Talahi Community School, he says it was great to see students having fun with a hands-on experience.

St. Cloud Police Looking For Suspect in Attempted Robbery Case

St. Cloud Police are looking for a suspect after an attempted robbery. Police say the incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at a business in the 10 block of Wilson Avenue Northeast. A suspect entered the store and eventually approached an employee at the counter.

Rice Man Taken to Hospital After Accidentally Shooting Himself in Leg

A Rice man was taken to the hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the leg. The incident happened on Sunday just after 9:45 p.m. at 9789 County Road 131 in Brockway Township. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office responded to a gunshot complaint and found 24-year-old John Smoley of Rice on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound to his left leg.

Harner Resigning From St. Cloud Area School Board

St. Cloud School board vice-chair Cindy Harner, who was arrested last week for suspicion of driving while intoxicated, resigned from her position on Friday. School board chair Dennis Whipple says he wasn't expecting the announcement from Harner and that the district will miss her contributions.

Downtown St. Cloud Home Furnishings Store Closing This Summer

A unique home furnishings store in downtown St. Cloud will be closing its doors this summer. Accents is at 713 West St. Germain Street and opened in 2010. Owner Kathy Severson says she and her husband decided to close the store for personal reasons and to travel more.

Sartell-St. Stephen School District Expecting Slower Future Growth

The Sartell-St. Stephen School District is expected to see continued growth but at a slower pace for the next 10 years. The district has seen enrollment increase by 25.9 percent for the past 10 years and now has 3,759 students enrolled in its schools, compared to 2,985 in 2005-2006.

One Taken to Hospital After Two Vehicle Crash in St. Cloud

One person was hurt in a two vehicle crash in St. Cloud on Monday. The incident happened just before 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of University Drive South and Washington Memorial Drive. Police say a vehicle driven by 86-year-old Herbert Herold of St. Cloud was driving west on University Drive towards the intersection.
