ST. CLOUD - Spotty rain and slightly cooler temperatures are the highlights of our August weather here in St. Cloud.

The August weather summary from St. Cloud State University says we officially had 3.10 inches of rain at the St. Cloud Regional Airport. That's about seven-tenths of an inch below normal. However, some surrounding towns had a lot more: Kimball 5.9 inches, Santiago 5.84, Long Prairie 4.83, and Rice 4.59.

Meanwhile, the average temperature for the month was less than a degree cooler than the average August temp. We did have our second 90-degree day of the summer in August.

There was also some severe weather early in the month. On August 6th four tornadoes touched down, three in Kandiyohi County. And on August 12th there was softball size hail up in Crow Wing County. So far this year there have been 24 tornado reports in Minnesota. That's slightly less than the annual average.
