ST. PAUL  (AP) — Officials confirm that commercial fishermen caught a silver carp and a bighead carp in the Mississippi River near Winona.

Commercial fishermen netted the two invasive Asian carp last Thursday. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says it's the first time a silver carp has been found so far upstream, though a few have been caught near La Crosse, Wis.

Tim Schlagenhaft of the DNR's Mississippi River Team says it's disappointing but unsurprising evidence that Asian carp continue to move up the Mississippi.

Bighead carp have been caught as far north as the St. Croix River.

Testing last year indicated the presence of silver carp DNA in the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers in the Twin Cities area, although searches have turned up no live Asian carp that far north yet.
