ST. CLOUD -- Free Comic Book Day is Saturday and Granite City Comics & Games is gearing up for a busy weekend.

Owner Tim Schulte says several comics will be free Saturday.

"We have about 52 titles that we're handing out, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Secret Empire, Wonder Woman, Doctor Who, Barbie, Betty and Veronica, Riverdale, and a lot more others."

When it comes to finding your favorite character, Schulte says you have to pick one you can relate to. For Schulte it's Stan Lee's, Peter Parker.

"I'm a Marvel guy, the first comic book I bought was the Amazing Spider-Man. In high school, being picked on all the time and not being the big sports jock he [Peter Parker] appealed to me because I was never very athletic."

Granite City Comics & Games has been a staple in the St. Cloud community for over 30 years.

"I've owned it since 1992, I worked for the previous owner six-months after he started and we've been in this current location for six years."

Over the years, the customers have changed too.

"When I first started working it was more high school kids, now it's more college students because the comics have changed from just for kids to more mature titles like Walking Dead. We have a lot of older clientele coming back and re-buying their childhood [favorites], their kids are now grown up and off on their own so they have more disposable cash."

The store is at 514 West St. Germain Street in downtown St. Cloud.
