ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Police say it was a man armed with a knife who was making threats that caused a lockdown at a St. Paul hospital.

Authorities say the man was sitting in a car with a woman and a baby outside the Regions Hospital emergency room when the incident began about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Negotiators were eventually able to convince the man to hand over the baby while the woman remained in the car.

When the man began cutting himself with the knife they used a stun gun to subdue and arrest him. He was being treated at the hospital for the self-inflicted wounds. The hospital was locked down for about an hour.
