The St. Cloud Apollo Boys Basketball team defeated Detroit Lakes 68-41 in the section 83A finals at St. Cloud State Halenbeck Hall Thursday night to advance to the Class 3A State Tournament.  The Eagles closed the first half with a 17-2 run and led 36-18 at halftime.  Detroit Lakes got as close as 15 points back in the 2nd half and Apollo holds on.  The Eagles were led by Blake Maslonkowski with 18 points and 7 rebounds and Ibrahim Abukar added 17 points and 7 rebounds.  Apollo had lost 4 straight section finals games prior to last night's win.  The Eagles improve to 25-4 and will await their pairing when the seedings are announced by the Minnesota State High School League.  The Eagles were ranked 4th in the most recent Class 3 poll.  Apollo will play in the Class 3A State Quarterfinals at Williams Arena at 1 of 4 options, 10am, noon, 2pm or 4pm.  WJON will broadcast the game.
