AP Investigation Details 10 Minneapolis Airport Breaches [VIDEO]
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has had 10 breaches of the perimeter security fences and gates in the past decade, several involving military service members who strayed into restricted areas.
An Associated Press investigation found that the Minnesota breaches are among at least 268 at 31 major U.S. airports from January 2004 through January 2015.
Nationally, fence jumpers took shortcuts, intoxicated drivers crashed through barriers and mentally ill intruders tried to hop flights. No breach was terrorism-related.
Airports say breaches are rare. Security typically includes fences, cameras and patrols, but there are gaps.
At the Minneapolis airport, police records show at least three of the 10 incidents involved service members spotted in areas where they weren't supposed to be. The two most recent incidents were in 2012.
