Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30AM on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph for Anthony “Tony” A. Volkmuth, 89, of Waite Park who passed away peacefully on March 19, 2016 at the VA Health Care System in St. Cloud. Rev. Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate and burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud. Visitation will be from 4-7PM on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to the services at church on Wednesday. Parish prayers will be prayed at 5PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Tony was born on September 18, 1926 in St. Cloud to Anton and Clara (Zapf) Volkmuth. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Mississippi. Tony married Delores Wegler on February 12, 1949 in St. Cloud, the couple had five children. He taught his children many life lessons, but also instilled strength and support for each child. The couple moved to Carrington North Dakota; Tony owned the Sargent County News, which was a weekly paper in Forman, ND. The couple moved back to the St. Cloud area in 1968, when Tony began working with his brothers at Volkmuth Printers. Later, he worked as a printer for DJV Tape and Label until his retirement in 1975. Delores preceded Tony in death on August 2, 1981. He later married Martha Schmitt on September 20, 1985 and she preceded him in death on October 10, 1997. Tony was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph and the Waite Park American Legion #428. He enjoyed trips to the casino and had many friends throughout the community. Most importantly, Tony was a wonderful father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Tony is survived by his daughters, Kathie (Ron) Horvath of Omaha, NE; Mary (Mark) Arnold of Waite Park, Carol (Loren) Zintek of St. Cloud, Patricia “Pattie” (Jim) Zirbes of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Manda, Christopher, Nicole, Matthew; great grandchildren, Dyllan, Aubrey, Connor, Layne, Jordan, Grayson, Drew; siblings, David (Charlotte) Volkmuth of Rockville, and Frances (Gordy) Jacobson of Isanti.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores; wife, Martha; son, Steven; grandson, Stephen Zirbes; siblings, Dick, Don, and Alice.

Tony’s family would like to thank the VA Building 48 First Floor Staff for their care and support of Tony on his Journey home.
