ST. CLOUD -- Another former owner of Triple Crown Sweepstakes has been convicted of running an illegal gambling operation.

A Stearns County jury found Richard Wayne Petty guilty on seven of eight counts of illegal gambling.

Petty was one of four owners of Triple Crown Sweepstakes in St. Cloud. Co-owner Steve Ehlen was also convicted of similar crimes. Charges against two other former owners were dropped.

Triple Crown Sweepstakes was raided by state gambling authorities and equipment seized in June 2012. The owners maintain they were running a sweepstakes and not a gambling operation.

Ehlen was sentenced to 20 days in jail and fined $900. Sentencing for Petty will be set at a later date.

Triple Crown Sweepstakes has since re-opened their storefront in the Centennial Plaza and now sell wings and snack foods.
