Amazon Distribution Center in Shakopee Could Employ 1,000
SHAKOPEE (AP) – Amazon.com Inc. is planning to build a distribution center in the Twin Cities area that could eventually employ 1,000 people.
The online retailer is asking the city of Shakopee for about $5 million in tax breaks to build the 820,000-square-foot center and warehouse. A document filed with the city says the market value of the development would be about $55 million. Amazon wants to open the center early in 2017.
The 63-acre site in Shakopee is in an existing industrial park. Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke says the process for considering the tax breaks is just beginning. He says the distribution center would need significant improvements to the current infrastructure.
