ST. CLOUD - The "Star Of The North" state games are back in the St. Cloud metro area. The amateur athletes will be competing in a variety of events this weekend, and next weekend.

Chief Communications Officer Barclay Kruse says the state games are holding their own, as far as participation goes, with a lot more competition from other events.

For example, on the weekend of our soccer tournament, there's probably six or seven youth soccer tournaments around the state of Minnesota. So it's a really competitive market. We're happy with the size we're at. We're still big enough that it's a huge economic impact on the city.

Kruse says nearly 4,000 athletes are expected to be in St. Cloud over the next two weekends. He says the "Star Of The North" games will have an economic impact on the area between a half-million-dollars and $700,000.
