Alyssa Ebel from Explore Minnesota joined me on WJON Thursday to talk about events happening in Minnesota both this week and next.  She talked about Bock Fest & Traditional Fasching Ball and the Eelpout Fest in Walker February 19-22.  Listen to the conversation below.

  • Bock Fest & Traditional Fasching Ball

Feb. 14, New Ulm

Bock Fest is an all-outdoor event on the grounds of Schell's Brewery with Schells Beer, brats, live music, a warm fire, and the release of the seasonal Bock beer. Fasching, a German Mardi Gras celebration, will also take place on Feb. 14, with live music by two famous German music chorus acts, along with dancing, ethnic food and drink, and the hilarious "Parade of Costumes" in the evening -- costumes are encouraged! The Bock Fest shuttle bus will transport festival-goers between the two events. A "Pre-Fasching" performance by the Johnny Holm Band will be held Friday night at the New Ulm Event Center.

  • International Eelpout Festival

Feb. 19-22, Walker

For the past 30 years, crowds that are more than 10 times the population of Walker, MN (pop. 1,069) gather on Minnesota's third largest lake for a festival named for one of the ugliest bottom-dwelling fish, the eelpout. Don't miss out on all the fun and crazy activities including the Eelpout Opening Ceremonies & Torch Lighting, DJ Dance Party & Karaoke Contest, the Eelpout Fish Fry, Eelpout Curling, 2nd Annual Kids Perch Jerk, Eelpout Rugby, Eelpout Fishing Show, Polar Pout Plunge, Eelpout 500 Races, the Bikini Fishing Show, refreshments in the Keg Castle and Big Top Tent, and of course the Eelpout Fishing Derby!
