June 20, 1927 - November 11, 2014

 

Almond “Gene” Miller passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in the care of the VA Hospice-St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he entered on November 5, 2014.

Gene was born June 20, 1927 to Charles and Dora (Brown) Miller in Kelly, Iowa. He grew up in Central Iowa, the youngest of eight children.

On October 27, 1950 he entered the US Army and was honorably discharged on October 26, 1952. He was married to LaDean Bartling and two children were born to them. They were later divorced.

He was employed in Tama, Iowa and the surrounding area at the Gray Iron Foundry and a local stone quarry.

In 1968 he moved to Lanesboro, Minnesota, where he was employed by the LaMoine Hatton Family in their farming operation, continuing his employment with the Hattons’ at the Long Prairie Livestock Auction Market and their farm at Eagle Bend, Minnesota.

He retired in 1995 and moved into Long Prairie and at the time of his death resided at the Prairie View 400 Apartments.

Gene is survived by his son, Steven and wife Gina of Belle Plaine, Iowa and their family and daughter Dianne and family of LeGrand, Iowa, also LaMoine and Linda Hatton of Long Prairie and their family who included him in their family for the past 46 years, and one brother, Leo of Missouri.
Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Ripley at a later date.
