Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon for Alma J. Dahlin, age 78, of Avon, who died Monday at her home. Rev. Blane Wasnie, O.S.B. will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and 1 hour prior to services Friday at the church in Avon. Parish prayers will be at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Avon.

Alma was born January 14, 1936 in Freeborn to John and Theresa (Tennis) Schmidt. After graduating from Kimball High School she married her high school sweetheart, Allen Dahlin, on August 1, 1953 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Luxemburg. Alma started working as a Bookkeeper in the grocery business when her husband Al purchased Dahlin’s Supermarket in Avon. The couple was proud to be family owned. Alma and Al enjoyed playing daily cribbage games and traveling; making it to all 49 states in their motorhome plus Hawaii by air. Alma was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon, her faith was her foundation throughout life. She loved reading, vegetable gardening, art, nature especially bird watching and jeopardy. Alma was a strong woman with a huge heart who deeply loved her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Daniel of Avon, Michael (Victoria) of Braham, Jacqueline Dahlin Girard of Albany, JoAnn “Joi” (Gary) Schommer of St. Cloud, Christopher (Susan) of Thief River Falls, Robin “Rob” (Amy) of Japan; 13 grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ardella Benson, Alice Heid, Inez (John) Williams, and Jean (Jack) Weber; sister-in-laws, Verna Schmidt and LaVerne Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Al; siblings, John, Joyce, Lester and Mildred.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
