Funeral Services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Becker United Methodist Church in Becker for Alice W. Cowley, 83, who died peacefully at Shepherd of Grace in Becker. Rev. Jonathan Neh Doe, Sr. will officiate and burial will be at a later date. Friends and relatives may call after 10:00 a.m. on February 7, 2015 at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Becker.

Alice was born on February 13, 1931 in St. Charles, Minnesota to Charles and Vernice (Starrett) Nielsen. She married Edmund “Ed” O. Cowley on July 22, 1950 at Central Park United Methodist Church in St. Paul. The couple lived in Woodbury for many years; until moving to Becker in 1975. Alice was instrumental in developing the fire department in Woodbury in the early 1960’s. She was a strong woman with a political opinion; she fought for women’s rights and mental health issues. Alice was DFL Woman of the year and also a Sherburne County DFL supporter. She was very artistic; painting, making Christmas ornaments and collecting drift wood. Alice enjoyed nature; especially gardening and arranging fresh cut flowers. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Alice is survived by her children, Edmund “Eddie” (Else) Cowley of Litchfield, Mary Alice Cowley of Cottage Grove; siblings, Charlotte (Robert) Coleman of Maplewood, Richard of Minneapolis, Mary Brunker of Florida; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Cowley; daughter, Doreen Cowley; son, Doug Cowley; grandson, Nathan Cowley; siblings, Charles “Chuck”, Esther, and Earl “Warren.”

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) 8120 Penn Ave. S., Suite 470, Bloomington, MN 55431.
