Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph for Albert G. “Bert” Zimmer, age 98 of St. Joseph who passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the St. Cloud Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate. Burial will take place at the parish cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Joseph Parish Center Heritage Hall. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Heritage Hall.

Bert was born on May 8, 1919 in St. Joseph, Minnesota to John and Agnes (Himsl) Zimmer. He was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII serving in the 315th Bomb Wing, 501st Group in Guam. Bert lived on the family farm in St. Joseph Township until he married Lucatta “Lu” (Danzl) Gill on August 25, 1966 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Bert was later employed as a Groundskeeper by St. John’s University until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and a life member of the St. Cloud Veterans of Foreign Wars Granite Post #428, St. Joseph American Legion Post #328 and the 315th Bomb Wing Association.

A few of Bert’s favorite pastimes were telling stories, fishing, hunting, traveling, playing cards and making wine.

Bert is survived by sisters and brother, Agnes Knie of Woodbury, Joseph Zimmer and Clara Guggenberger both of Cold Spring; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; stepchildren, Raymond Gill and Lucille “Girlie” Pueringer; grandson, Mike Pueringer; brothers and sisters, John Zimmer, Rose Gohman, Sabina Zimmer, Werner Zimmer, Marie Zimmer, Anton Berger and Mary Mertes.
