ALBANY - An Albany Senior High School teacher is being honored for his commitment and contribution to economic education.

Alan Amdahl will receive the 3M Economic Educator Excellence Award, which annually recognizes one educator for their contributions towards economics. Amdahl says he strives to teach his students the importance of economics in daily life.

"I just tell them that there's so many ways that it impacts them, even if they don't think about pursuing it as a field. There's always taxes, investing, wages, unemployment-you name it."

He will be honored by the Minnesota Council on Economic Education at their annual EconFest celebration on November 3rd, at Land O'Lakes in Arden Hills.

Over the past five years, Amdahl's students have placed first or second in their division each year at the state economics championship, including winning it all in 2014.

Amdahl has been teaching in Albany Area Schools for 24 years and is teaching four courses in economics this school year. He will also receive $1,500 during the award ceremony for his achievement.

The Minnesota Council on Economic Education is a non-profit organization at the University of Minnesota.
