Some St. Paul Ford workers happy to have jobs
by The Associated Press

ST. PAUL -- Some Ford Motor Company workers in St. Paul say they are glad the plant will stay open until 2011.

But the local union president says those who took a buyout in 2006 feel they were misled.

Roger Terveen is president of UAW Local 879. He says the mood Thursday among workers is positive overall.

The plant was scheduled to close next year.

But after announcing a loss of $8.67 billion in the second quarter, Ford said its plant in St. Paul will continue producing the Ranger small pickup for three years.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said the decision was great news for the city, where the plant has been a part of the community for more than 80 years.
