Man dies in Pequot Lakes ultralight crash

PEQUOT LAKES -- A man is dead after an ultralight plane crashed into a field near Pequot Lakes. 

The crash happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday about five miles northeast of Pequot Lakes. 

Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl says the man had taken off and made two or three circles by a field with his fixed-wing ultralight aircraft when the crash happened. 

Dahl says there were no witnesses to the crash. 

The name of the victim, who died at the scene, was not immediately released. 

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified.
