Minn. school district going to four-day week
by The Associated Press

CLARA CITY -- The state Education Department has approved a four-day school week for a tiny school district in west-central Minnesota.

Starting this fall, students in the MACCRAY (muh-KRAY') district will go to school from Tuesday through Friday.

The district asked for the shorter week to save money.

While no other districts have asked the Education Department for permission for a shorter week, MACCRAY superintendent Greg Schmidt says several schools in Minnesota and elsewhere have called asking to know more about the plan.

The MACCRAY district has about 700 students.

The name stands for the towns of Maynard, Clara City and Raymond.
