Made-in-USA flag in Minn. means price increases

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the first time, all the American flags sold in Minnesota during the run-up to July 4th had to be made in the USA.
Representative Tom Anzelc of Balsam Township says he thought it was un-American to have American flags made abroad so he co-sponsored the law that took effect this year.
It requires all flags sold in the state to be made in the USA, and would hit violators with up to a $1,000 fine and 90 days in jail.
But not everyone is a fan. Imad Ardah is a co-owner of Alamo Flags in the Mall of America. He says the cost of one of his American flags doubled to nearly $40. He says he understands the motivation for the law, but worries that too many people can't afford flags that are made in the U.S.
The DFLer Anzelc says he believes people will gladly pay the extra cost if the money goes to their neighbors.
