Minneapolis replacing lead-tainted fountains
by The Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS -- The city of Minneapolis is replacing 42 drinking fountains that had to be removed from city hall after tests found excessive levels of lead contamination.

All but six of the fountains have since been replaced. City officials say outdated plumbing was the problem.

In all the city tested 300 drinking fountains and found that 42 exceeded the national standard for lead contamination.

Mayor R.T. Rybak tells KMSP-TV that the fixes will make sure all the water at city hall is of good quality. Rybak has been part of a local campaign encouraging people to stop using bottled water and start drinking from the tap.
