Catfish a star during New Ulm's 'Capital for a Day' event

NEW ULM, Minn. -- A 35-pound flathead catfish was one of the stars when New Ulm took the spotlight as ``Capital for a Day'' this week.

The catfish was displayed with others on Thursday in tanks set up by Department of Natural Resources fisheries officers. It was returned to the Minnesota River with a tag signifying that whoever catches the fish can claim a prize worth $1,000.

Scott Sparlin, president of the New Ulm Area Sport Fishermen Club, says the catfish part of Thursday's festivities was meant to connect more people to the river.

The fish displayed at New Ulm's Riverside Park had been caught by DNR officers.
