Man charged in 1993 sexual assault in St. Paul

ST. PAUL -- Ramsey County prosecutors charged a 30-year-old man with sexual assault for a crime that he allegedly committed in a St. Paul park when he was 15.

Prosecutors say in a news release on Wednesday that because of the man's age at the time of the crime, the case was filed in juvenile court.

That means that his name is not public information, however the county attorney's office has filed a motion to move the case to adult court.

The man allegedly attacked a 14-year-old girl in the early morning of July 19, 1993, in Mears Park.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension linked him to the crime last year when it matched his DNA from a database of convicted offenders to evidence from the crime scene.
