Jim Maurice
News Director
I’m a life long resident of the great state of Minnesota. Grew-up in the small West Central Minnesota town of Maynard – population 400 (give or take a few). My graduating class had a total of 20 people. Through my broadcasting career, I’ve made stops Montevideo, Redwood Falls, and now here in St. Cloud. I enjoy covering the many different areas of local news, but my favorites are: politics, schools, and human-interest stories. I’m always looking for great stories, so drop me a line if you’ve got a tip for me. In my free time you could find me at a variety of events around the community, relaxing at the lake “up-north”, or watching a reality TV show (I’m a self-confessed reality show junkie).

I am a St. Cloud native, grew up in south St. Cloud and graduated from Tech High School. From there, I went to play college football at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Three years later, I transferred to St. Cloud State University where I finished my schooling and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications. I began working as a full-time news reporter at WJON in October of 1996 and nearly 12 years later I am still covering St. Cloud area news for Regent Broadcasting and its six radio stations.

I was raised in the Twin Cities, specifically south Maplewood. After a couple years, I found myself deejaying weddings, which sparked my interest in radio. While attending St. Cloud State University and studying mass communications, I grew into a news hound which took me in a completely different direction. Eventually I fell for the St. Cloud area and decided to start my career here. I’ve been writing and reporting stories concerning Central Minnesota for the past few years now. I believe that local radio is the easiest and most effective way to communicate with people about issues concerning their lives. Call me what ever, but I always enjoy covering city council meetings. I also enjoy reporting on politics, social issues and a great human interest story now and then. I consider myself an avid music fan and enjoy listening to artists’ albums in there entirety. You can always find me either hanging out at home or enjoying the company of great friends and family.

I grew up in Mora Minnesota but I live in the Twin Cities at the moment. I graduated from Brown College in 2007 with a degree in radio broadcasting. My first job was as an on air announcer at a country/polka and a classic rock radio station in Faribault, MN. Throughout my life and career I wanted to do news and WJON gave me that chance. I feel privileged to work with this award-winning staff. In my free time I enjoy playing video games, spending time with my daughter and husband, and cuddling with my cat.

I love radio and radio news. I've worked here for a long time and love what this station -- and now this website -- have come to mean in this community. Radio's not my only joy -- I also have a passion for trivia, travel, ghosts and Bigfoot. (Hey, when you grow up in Northern Minnesota, you'd be surprised what you believe in...) Together, my wife and I are on a quest to find the world's best clam chowder.
