UNDATED -- Parents of teens who are new drivers will want to listen closely. Some new laws go into effect August First that restrict when they can be behind the wheel and also how many friends they can have along with them.
Benton County Chief Deputy Sheriff Troy Heck says one law change prohibits newly licensed teens from driving between midnight and 5:00 a.m. for the first six months. But, he says there are some exceptions. Those are when driving for work or school.
In the first six months, teens can also only have one passenger under 20-years-old unless they are a family member.
Heck also says remember teens under 18 can't legally talk on their cell phone while driving and no one is allowed to text message while behind the wheel.
