UNDATED -- New recommendations from the American Cancer Society suggest men should become more involved in the decision to get screened for prostate cancer.
American Cancer Society's Minnesota Director of Healthcare Partnerships Matt Flory says men need to know more about the potential benefits and drawbacks of screening. Researchers have found their is no difference in early detection of prostate cancer.
It's really important for men to talk this through with their doctor, based on their doctor's recommendation, personal history, an vaules. Prostate cancers are all different some can be slow growing while others fastgrowing.
In some cases for men, the risks of prostate screening outweigh the benefits.
The new recommendations are not a big change. Before the doctor would make the decision for undecided patients.
