
Update: Local students win money for their school

ST. CLOUD -- Some local high school students have won one-thousand dollars for their school by creating a 30-second commercial. The Central Minnesota Water Education Alliance asked students to use their ten water protection tips and create a TV-ad for the 2008 Make the Water Connection.
There were three winners, one from Apollo high school and two from Sauk Rapids-Rice high school.
Students Camila Cediel and Jordan Engel from Apollo created the commercial titled “Car Wash” which was sponsored by technology education teacher Joe Shulte. Sauk Rapids-Rice students Beau Jocobson, Ronnie Molitor and Eric Marshall created the commercial title “Role Model” sponsored by industrial technology instructor Curt Olsen. And, Matt Szymanski from Sauk Rapids-Rice created a commercial called “Every Drop Counts” which was also sponsored by Curt Olsen.
Five honorable mention ads were also selected which included entries from Apollo, St. Johns Prep, and Sauk Rapids-Rice high schools.
Waite Park mayor Rick Miller will officially recognize the winners at the C-M-W-E-A Ducky Awards event next Wednesday, May 14th at 4:30p.m at the Gander Mountain in Waite Park.
Along with winning one-thousand-dollars for their school the students will receive a 400-dollar gift card for Gander Mountain.
