State challenges you to recycle more
by Jim Maurice, WJON.com
UNDATED -- Minnesotans are doing a good job recycling, but we could be a lot better.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Recycling Association of Minnesota have launched a statewide campaign to re-invigorate our recycling effort both at work and at home.
The state's rate of recycling is at 41%, pretty much the same as it was 10 years ago. However, last month we learned that St. Cloud's recycling rate is only about 30%.
The goal of the "Recycle More" campaign is to increase our statewide recycling rate to 50% by 2011.
The GOOD news is that Minnesota has the second-best rate in the country.
But we still end-up throwing over 1.3 million tons of recyclible materials in the trash every year.
If you'd like to learn more about how you can recycle more materials, check out the Recycle More Minnesota website.
