DNR: Fewer of us are "gone fishin"

UNDATED -- On this Fishing Opener Eve, the Department of Natural Resources is trying to lure more of us out onto the water.
Fishing isn't quite as popular in Minnesota as is used to be. And that's why the DNR is launching an aggressive campaign to win former fisherman back to the water, and get young people interested in the sport.
They recently mailed-out 40,000 reminder postcards to former anglers who did not buy a 2007 fishing license last year. They're also investing $1 million dollars in radio advertising here at home, and in 29 others states. You'll also notice billboards going-up promoting fishing.
Experts say years ago 40% of Minnesotans bought a fishing license, today it's about 28%.
Last year there were 1.4 million fishing licenses sold in the state.
