School board wants more info on plan for artificial turf
by Jim Maurice, WJON.com

The St. Cloud area school board heard a plan last (Thursday) night to put artificial turf at Apollo's Mische Field.

However, they didn't take any action on the private fundraising campaign.

Instead, they WILL discuss it at a future meeting.

Some of the concerns brought-up by members of the board include:

-- The cost to replace the field which will be about $300,000 every 10-12 years.

-- Naming rights for the field.  The men who want to raise the money are asking that they be able to go after a big sponsor in exchange for naming rights. And also,

-- The timing of a fundraising campaign for an athletic field was a concern for some board members.

It would cost about $700,000 to install artificial turf at Mische Field.

Supporters would like to begin installing it next spring, so it would be ready to be used in the fall of 2009.
