Council forces property owners to clean-up graffiti quicker

ST. CLOUD -- The city of St. Cloud is making property owners clean up graffiti much sooner after it appears than previously required.
The move reduces the clean-up time from a 60-day window to three.
The change also expands the scope of who can be held responsible for cleaning up the graffiti.
It adds people like apartment managers, tenants or other people who may be leasing properties. A proposed amendment to the change would have lengthened the time from three days to 10 days, but that amendment failed.
City Attorney Jan Peterson says the change is in response to neighbors concerns and says city staff will work with property owners if there is reason why it can't be cleaned up within the three days of being notified by the city.
