MOTLEY -- A Morrison County lake will be designated as infested waters after zebra mussels were discovered last week.

Fish Trap Lake is the first lake in Morrison County to be confirmed to have the invasive species.

The DNR says a lake user found a zebra mussel on a submerged tree branch near shore. DNR officials then confirmed widespread zebra mussel populations throughout the lake.

Because the lake has widespread adult zebra mussel populations, it is not a candidate for treatment.

DNR officials remind lake users to be diligent in cleaning weeds and debris from boats and trailers, emptying live wells, removing boat plugs and throwing away unused bait.
