90 Percent of Gas Pumps Inspected Are Accurate

ST. PAUL (AP) - State inspectors say 90 percent of the gas pumps they've examined in Minnesota this year are accurate.

The Department of Commerce says that's a slight improvement over last year when 88 percent of pumps inspected through June were accurate.

Twelve inspectors examine roughly 50,000 gas pumps in Minnesota. The team has checked 11,000 pumps in the first half of the year.

Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman says the inaccurate pumps can go both ways. Sometimes consumers get a little more gas, sometimes a little less. Rothman says pumps can also fail inspections for missing receipt paper or digits that aren't lit.
