MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota State Patrol says four people have died in a crash on an icy highway in Aitkin County of northeastern Minnesota.

The State Patrol says the crash happened on Highway 65 south of Highway 18 around 3 p.m. Saturday. It says all four of the victims were in a 2001 Mazda Tribute SUV that collided with a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban SUV south of the town of McGrath.

Names and hometowns of the dead were not immediately released. Two people in the Suburban suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Patrol says further details on the crash will be released as they become available. It says the highway was icy at the time.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says roads in the area are snow-covered and slippery.
