BEMIDJI (AP) - First responders in Beltrami County handled four heroin overdoses in one day over the weekend, one which was fatal.

Sheriff's officials say the emergency calls were handled by deputies and by Bemidji police Saturday. The three survivors were taken to hospitals. Sheriff's Sgt. Jarrett Walton says there's no word on their conditions.

Details of the overdoses were not disclosed. Local law enforcement officials are concerned heroin that's being distributed locally is causing the overdoses.

A few emergency response agencies are using the drug Narcan to combat overdoses and save lives. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Department was the first agency in the state to use the antidote.
