MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Eight people died in crashes on Minnesota roads over the weekend, making it the deadliest weekend of 2013.

The Minnesota State Patrol says three of those victims died in a Sunday crash on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis when some minor contact between three vehicles caused a minivan driver to lose control and rollover. Five others in the minivan were injured.

The names of the victims who died in that crash have not been released. But authorities say they are an 80-year-old woman, a 44-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old male. They were not wearing seat belts.

The weekend's fatalities also include a motorcyclist who ran a red light in Brooklyn Park, hitting another vehicle.

State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske urges motorists to buckle up, drive at safe speeds and pay attention.
