SAUK RAPIDS -- A long-awaited construction project in Sauk Rapids gets underway tomorrow (Tuesday).

The "3 Up the Hill" project on 2nd Street North runs from 3rd Avenue North in Sauk Rapids up to Highway 10. The existing two-lane road will be replaced with a four-lane roadway and center median. There will be roundabouts at Summit Avenue and 6th Avenue North. The intersection of Stearns Drive and 2nd Street North will be controlled by a traffic light.

The road will remain open to traffic with some brief exceptions. The first closure will take place June 6th and last about one week while utility work can be completed. A detour will be posted.

Sauk Rapids residents may also see limited disruptions to water supplies as contractors install temporary water lines and switch back to new lines. The city will notify residents of the disruptions.

Most of the project will be done during the day Monday-Friday, but some Saturday work and some night work are possible.

The road is expected to be fully open sometime this fall.
